Tips and Tricks for a Better Night's Sleep

Sleep is absolutely critical to a healthy mind and body, but most of us don’t get enough of it. More frustrating still is when we do get enough sleep, but it isn’t as restful as it could be. So we did a little research and gathered these tips and tricks to help you get the best night’s sleep possible!

  1. Set a Bedtime - Going to sleep at a consistent time every night will help you maintain a healthy sleep cycle. Basically, your body will know when it's time for bed. For the best results, keep this up on weekends! The more consistent, the better! 
  2. Cut Afternoon Caffeine - Don’t get us wrong, we love our caffeine here at Bizzy, but a Double Shot at 5:00 PM is definitely going to make it harder for you to fall asleep. If you’re an afternoon coffee person, consider having that last cup of cold brew with lunch, rather than later in the day. 
  3. Sleep in Socks - According to a 1999 study, having warm hands and feet can help you fall asleep faster! If you have glacial foot syndrome, consider slipping on a pair of socks with your pyjamas to get to sleep quicker! 
  4. Cut Electronics - To power your brain down, power your devices down about an hour before bed. The bright light from electronics throws of your natural sleep cycle, and can keep you awake longer. Counteract this by putting the screens down, and doing a relaxing activity like reading before bed. 
  5. Eliminate Late Night Snacks - having a big snack or even a meal before bed can give you a poor night’s sleep since your body is working overtime to break down all that food. Light snacks are usually fine, but any larger snacks will likely throw off your sleep. 
  6. Practice Deep Breathing - a trick as old as time, deep breathing is a great way to lower your heart rate, relax your body, and ready your mind for a deeper night’s sleep. 
  7. Take Work Out of the Bedroom - Don’t do work, or any other stressful activity in your bedroom. This can help create a mental association between your bedroom and your bed and sleep. In addition, if you can’t fall asleep, consider moving into another room and doing a relaxing activity till you’re tried to help maintain this association.
